Who is accountable for the lives that went down the drains?

The CDA, being a rich development body is apathetic to civic issues and spends maximum share of its development budget for the beautification of posh sectors housing the elite class. The authority is unable to expand infrastructure in accordance with expansion of city and population that is why it violates the master plan to find easy solutions to these issues. Different markets including Blue Area, the commercial hub of the capital, markets and residential areas of sectors G-8, G-9, G- 10, I-9 and I-10 are suffering utmost difficulties due to open manholes posing threat to human life. Power shortage in Pakistan

After the assassination of Benazir Bhutto (former Pakistani Prime Minister & leader of main opposition party), riots began in different parts of Pakistan, resulting in damage to several power stations throughout the country. Pakistan who was already facing power crises is now having shortage of almost 10 hours a day across Pakistan. In some cities the shortage time is even more than 10 hours. Of these 60 will die within the first month of life, the majority with in the first few days of birth. If one adds the enormous number of stillborn infants and maternal deaths to this list, it exposes the deplorable state of health care delivery in Pakistan. For a country about to join the nuclear club, it is inexcusable to have a startling 2 million perinatal (at the time of the birth) deaths annually. Leading causes of sickness and death include gastroenteritis, respiratory infections, congenital abnormalities, tuberculosis, malaria, and typhoid fever. The United Nations estimates that in 2003 Pakistan's human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevalence rate was 0.1 percent among those 15–49, with an estimated 4,900 deaths from acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Tauheed Ahmed from USA (NewsPost 10 March) seems to have cast away whatever little ghairat -‘shame’ – he might have had after living there now for 30 years. I am at a loss to find an appropriate word for ghairat in English probably there is none because they have none of it. He equates the honourable act of the FATA Senators of not subjecting themselves to the body scan at the US airport with their suffering from the VIP culture. Dear Tauheed, I wish you knew that there is no VIP culture amongst the tribesmen. They all treat each other as equals. Irrespective of the rich or the poor they all sit together and partake the same food. Only the guests are treated preferentially and shown more hospitality than others. Now why is the body scan (search) carried out? I know it as much as you do and so did the Senators, to ensure that no drugs, explosives or weapons are carried concealedly by the person.. In other words, you do not trust the person and think he/she may be carrying what he/she is not supposed to. Now, this kind of suspicion is what the tribesmen consider most humiliating and unbecoming. Fata Senators were invited by the US government. As such they were the guests in that far off land. They expected to be treated like guests. And in their culture one does not suspect the guest of betraying the trust of the host. Period.

But I suppose such cultural values of the ‘primitives’ are not commonly understood by the civilised of the West.
